The 21st Century has seen some radical changes to the music insdutry and as technology grows, its use becomes even more over powering. West End shows are now being 'performed' by digitally recorded orchestras, pit musicians are having their contracts thrown out in favour of one time recordings that fit all shows and more concert venues are struggling to fund their musicians. Are there enough performance oppurtunities for budding young musicans to flourish and begin a career? Or are we setting them up for an aspiration that is doomed from the start? What is technology doing to live music?

"Performance Anxiety: An Investigation into the Physical, Medical and Psycological Implications and Potential Solutions for a Musician"

Abstract:

 

This proposal will uncover how Music Performance Anxiety can affect a musician physically and psychologically; furthermore it can additionally be a catalyst for other, seemingly unrelated, medical condition within an individual. Recent research into ‘performance science’, a new and cutting edge field, combined with the work of previously recognised Performance Anxiety theorists will form the proposal for a new and potentially significant study on the coping strategies of Music Performance Anxiety (MPA). This proposal will examine the research techniques necessary to acquire accurate data as well as conducting preliminary investigations, surveys and studies using the chosen methodologies.
